Singer philanthropist Kim Jang-hoon has donated a piece of real estate worth hundreds of millions of won to a child welfare center which he has supported over the past 12 years.

Kim appeared in an advertisement for the sale of commercial space at a building in southern Seoul about a month ago. In exchange, he received a 66-square-meter shop there, worth about 250 million won ($200,000). Kim made a written promise that he would donate it to New Hope Home, the welfare center in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, in three years.

The donation was announced to the public last Thursday during a fundraising concert for the center at a theater in Daehangno, central Seoul. The head of the center thanked Kim and said the children had made pictures on a sketchbook to thank Kim and then handed it over to the singer. In one of the pictures, a child wrote: "We thank you for helping us, amusing us, and making us have good memories".

Kim said he came up with the idea of donating real estate after he fainted from fatigue during a concert last June.

"I thought the support for the children should not be stopped even when something bad suddenly happens to me. So I decided on a real estate donation, which can continue to give to them in years to come", he said.
