"The Himalayas" is based on a true story about Um Hong-gil, a world renowned mountaineer who was the first person to climb the 16 highest peaks on Earth. In 2000, he completed the 14 highest peaks, and was the first South Korean and the seventh climber in the world to accomplish the feat .

The movie will revolve around the 2005 Human Expedition to Mount Everest led by Um to search for the body of his friend and colleague, Park Moo Taek, who lost his life at the world's tallest peak the previous year.

"The Himalayas" will be produced by JK Film which released blockbuster films "Dancing Queen" and "Haeundae". Kang Dae-gyu, director of inspirational 2010 hit movie, "Harmony" will helm. Filming is expected to start in October for a summer 2014 release.

Meanwhile, Kim Myung-min was last seen as the charistmatic Anthony Kim in SBS drama, "King of the Drama" that concluded its run in January. Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the actor.
