In an interview with a photo shoot, he again expressed his feelings about winning the grand prize for the drama "Through the Darkness" last year. He said, "It was a drama that I worked on carefully because it was not an accessible subject. I wanted to focus on delivering the story and make it with a sense of mission and responsibility even if that meant giving up on popularity, but I was happy that such a choice was recognized. It was more meaningful because I received the award with the power of my work", he said, expressing his gratitude.

He played the half-human, half-monster Ban in the drama "Island - Drama" and was originally a fan of the original cartoon of the same name. Asked if he would have been worried when he was offered to appear as a 'comic maniac', he said, "I refused because I didn't want to ruin my beloved work with my own hands. However, someone said 'Why do you think it will be ruined without trying and try to make it work instead?' and I changed my mind".

Kim Nam-gil, who expressed his personal wish, said, "I hope there will be more works that understand humans than stimulating contents", and added, "I don't want to embarrass the people who have been with me as an actor. I hope that our work can be the driving force behind each other's dreams", he said, expressing his belief as an actor.
