Actress Kim Tae-hee was threatened by five armed burglars who broke into a house that she was visiting in South Africa. The owner of the house, a local Korean resident, was Kim's guide and had invited the actress for dinner after she finished photographing for a catalog. There were more than 20 people in the house at the time of the incident, including Kim's staff and the guide's family members, but they had no choice but to hand over money and other valuables in order to escape serious harm. Fortunately, the burglars departed the scene after taking the valuables, and only three or four people in the house were slightly injured.

After returning to Korea on Jan. 30, Kim said she felt like she had been born again after experiencing the ordeal, which she described as something she had only seen in the movies, and assured her fans that she was feeling well by posting a message on her online fan cafe.
