Kimchi Stew Voted Office Workers' Favorite Lunch

Kimchi stew is the favorite lunch among salaried workers, according to a poll of 1,042 office workers released by job portal Job Korea on Tuesday. This is the second straight year that the dish has topped the list.

Of 733 respondents who said they go to a nearby restaurant for lunch, 45.6 percent picked kimchi stew as their most preferred dish. Multiple answers were allowed.

Rounding out the top five in order were soybean paste stew (36.8 percent), steamed rice with side dishes (34.4 percent), bibimbap or rice with assorted vegetables and beef (23.9 percent), and breaded pork cutlet (22.0 percent).

Salaried workers spend an average of W4,885 on lunch per day (US$1=W1,155). A meal at a restaurant costs them W5,372, while they pay only W3,338 for lunch in a company cafeteria.
