KOCCA's foreign promotion support paves the way for the export of Korean cultural content

The Korea Culture and Content Agency's (KOCCA, CEO: Ko, Seok-Man) foreign promotion project for Korean cultural content has produced its first results.

KOCCA announced recently that as a result of its foreign media promotion project for Korean cultural content, which KOCCA implemented from 2006 to 2007, Korea's high-quality cultural content has successfully received recognition in foreign markets. In 2007, KOCCA reported 26 projects of Korean content, 100 cases for media promotion, and 10 cases for advertising, totaling 74 cases for KOCCA's foreign promotion project.

Particularly, the producers of Z-XANGER, an animation by iConix that received KOCCA's promotion support, have been approached by a major French channel for a possible distribution deal. The said French channel saw the advertisement for the animation on Kidscreen, a character magazine, and ads during MIPCOM, which convinced it that the animation befits the concept and target audience of the channel.

Kidscreen, the foreign media on which Z-Ranger's ad was published, is a magazine specializing in animation and characters. It has a wide and diverse readership in North America and other major foreign markets, delivering world animation and character news distributed on Cartoon Forum, LA Roadshow, Brand Licensing and other major expos.

Also, Myo & Ga, a new animation by Pucca producer VOOZ, has recently concluded a contract with ITC Licensing on merchandising license in Brazil after its ad was published on animation magazines such as Kidscreen and Total Licensing.

VOOZ's Myo & Ga is a comic adventure 3D animation based on a modern reinterpretation of traditional Korean cultural content such as Byeoljubujeon and Sibijisin. Myo & Ga received production support worth KRW 200M from KOCCA's Production Studio.

With its project first implemented in 2006, KOCCA's Foreign Media Promotion Support Team aims to reduce Korean content developers' burden for promotion and maximize Korean content's media exposure by integrating advertising channels.

By consistently promoting about 10 Korean cultural content projects for export to foreign markets, KOCCA has accomplished up to 60 cases of advertisement and 23 media reports in 2006 alone, and up to 74 such cases for advertisement and some 100 media reports.
