KOCCA to support the export of five works including 'Chiro and Friends'

The Korea Culture and Content Agency (CEO: Ko, S. Man) recently announced on its website the five works to receive KOCCA's support for the 2nd Export Support Project for Animation in 2007.

KOCCA supports the export of excellent Korean animations by shouldering the production expenses entailed by translation and dubbing. KOCCA offers up to KRW 20M per project for TV series and animations for theaters and KRW 5M per episode for pilots and short animations. The support is provided for up to 70% of the total project cost.

The five works to receive KOCCA's support are three animated works for theaters and TV, which are Chiro and Friends (iCONIX Entertainment), The Bristol Expedition (Dongwoo Animation), Doradox (NeoTec Technology), and two short and pilot animations, which are Haenim Dalnim (Big Eye Entertainment) and A Strange Tour (Puppet Box Animation).

Chiro and Friends is a 3D edutainment animation for young kids that stars three chicks, Chiro, a very curious troublemaker, Chico, the oldest brother, and Chiyo, a shy and delicate chick. The Bristol Expedition tells the adventure of Jim and Livesy in Bristol, the city of adventurers, who by chance set out on sail. Doradox is a fun science play of the members of the Doradox gang who are supposed to go to the prestigious kindergarten of Anipet School. Unfortunately, they are instead admitted to an Animal School in a far-flung rural town. A Strange Tour is about the exciting adventure of three flog boys who discover a ceramic jar that allows them to travel through time.

Finally, Haenim Dalnim is a 3D animated reinterpretation of the traditional Korean folktale The Story of Sun and Moon featuring new characters.

The works selected by KOCCA features various animation techniques, from clay animation to stereographic animation for theaters. Some of them have already received acclaim for their excellent quality via terrestrial TV programs. Chiro and Friends had been broadcast as EBS's Establishment Commemoration Program last year, which was the only animation that ranked within the top five programs for children and young kids in the first half of 2007. A Strange Tour had been selected as an excellent pilot in 2007 by KOCCA, and Haenim Dalnim, which challenged a new genre of stereographic animation, had been played in Korean Traditional Town and Children's Grand Park in 2006.
