KOFIC ANNOUNCES FILMMAKERS' DEVELOPMENT LAB 2009

The KOFIC Filmmakers' Development Lab (FDL) will be held for the forth year running in 2009.

The FDL aims to match emerging filmmakers from Korea and the Korean diaspora, with mentors drawn from the film industries in Korea and overseas countries. The aim of the program is to enable these filmmakers to make their fiction feature projects through script development, knowledgeable advice from an industry professional, and exposure to the international film community.

Five filmmaking Fellows will be chosen from open submission and matched with five professionals who act as their Mentors.


THE PROGRAM

The program consists of:

● A one week Lab where Mentors work one-on-one with Fellows to bring their scripts up to a marketable stage. During the Lab, Fellows and Mentors also participate in group discussions that over a range of topics relevant to filmmaking and film business. It is anticipated that this year's Lab will take place in Bucheon(Pucheon), Korea from July 16th to July 22nd during PIFAN (Pucheon International Fantastic Film Festival) 2009. Return transportation from city of residence to Lab location, full board and lodging will be provided.

● Mentors' scripts are introduced in NAFF 2009 (Network of Asian Fantastic Films 2009) during PIFAN in July. KOFIC sponsors Fellows' attendance at NAFF 2009 and they are given the opportunity to pitch their projects to producers and investors from all over the world.

● Mentors' scripts are to be presented in KOFIC American Business Campus in fourth quarter of 2008 in Seoul, and given the opportunity to meet industry representatives from Korea and the US and introduce their projects.


THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications for FDL 2009 will be open from APRIL 13 TO MAY 25, 2009. (From APRIL 12, 5PM TO MAY 25, 2AM in US Pacific Time)

You are eligible if you:

● are Korean or of Korean descent, resident anywhere in the world;

● have film training or film experience and evidence in the form of short films or feature length work;

● are a writer/director. Participation in the Lab requires that you have written a script and have the capability to make it into a feature film.

Please follow the instructions on this web-site for the initial application. Basically you are required to submit a treatment and full script for a feature film project, and a filmmaker's statement.

Five Fellows will be selected from the submitted scripts and announced by JUNE 5, 2009.

All fellows will receive a 2,500,000 won(KRW) cash award at the press conference during FDL.
