KOFIC announces recipients of HD production support

The Korean Film Council has selected five feature films to receive support under the 2008 HD Film Production Support Program.

Each film, to be shot in HD format, will receive 300 million won (~$230,000) to help offset production costs. Only those features with a production budget of less than one billion won (~$770,000) are eligible for the program.

A total of 154 screenplays were submitted to the program, an indication of the large number of independent filmmakers currently active in Korea. The selection process was carried out in two parts, with a preselection jury of nine people choosing 17 finalists, and a second jury of seven people selecting the final winners.

This year's recipients are listed below, with transcribed Korean titles. (One additional selected title will be announced in the future after further consideration.)

* "The Executioner" (dir. Choi Jin-ho-II)

* "Vegetarian" (dir. Lim Woo-seong)

* "Bedevilled" (dir. Jang Cheol-soo)

* "Life is Peachy" (dir. Kim Soo-hyeon)
