Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Chairperson: Kim Eui-suk) has announced its plan to actively promote location shoot in Korea, with its participation at AFCI Locations 2011 at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA, from June 3 to 5. Several major Korean film commissions will also participate in this event under the guidance of KOFIC.

AFCI Location 2011 is an annual global event hosted by the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI), whose body is comprised of over 300 location-supporting film commissions from all over the world serving as its members, and attended by both experts in location field and film producers in masses. Although few film commissions from Korea have previously attended the event on their own, this is the first-time KOFIC is taking the charge and open a promotion center to showcase Korea and conduct full-scale publicity campaign for location shoot in Korea.

During the AFCI Locations 2011, KOFIC, under the slogan of 'Location Korea!' will operate a promotion center that will display everything Korea has to offer for location shoot, including distribution of location guidebooks and promotional DVDs. In addition, film commissions from Korean cities Seoul, Busan, Jeonju and CheongPung will also participate to present uniqueness and advantages from each region and conduct active meetings with producers working in Hollywood film industry.

KOFIC, in particular, will actively publicize its 'Foreign Audio-visual Works Production Grant', a new supporting program which launched in 2011. This supporting program provides 25% cash back on local expenses to any foreign audio-visual productions including films and/or TV mini-series shot in Korea with expenses spent over 1 million US dollars during the shoot. Although Korea hasn't been well-known overseas as a filming location so far, with KOFIC's participation at AFCI Location 2011, such lack of recognition will be a thing of the past with major producers in Hollywood clearly understanding and recognizing the immense value of location shoot in Korea.
