Korea fails to enter Cannes main competition... Hong Sang-soo, Kim Ki-duk, Na Hong-jin 'Noticeable'

Director Hong Sang-soo's "The Day He Arrives", Kim Ki-duk's "ARIRANG - Movie" and Na Hong-jin's "The Yellow Sea" have been invited to the 64th Cannes Film Festival in the "Un Certain Regard" category. It's disappointing this isn't a competing category.

With the opening coming up this 11th of May, the 64th Cannes Film Festival mass revealed the contents in the competing categories as well as the noticeable and midnight sections.

Director Hong Sang-soo's "Ha Ha Ha" had been invited as Noticeable last year and again this year with "The Day He Arrives". This is the 7th time his work had been invited to the Cannes Film Festival and is the most on his own. Director Na Hong-jin has been invited for the 2nd time in three years after "The Chaser" (midnight screening section) with "The Yellow Sea". Director Kim Ki-duk has been invited for "ARIRANG - Movie" after his entrée into the competing categories with "Breath" 4 years ago.

Director Son Tae-kyeom's "Night Flight" made it to the Cine Foundation (Student category). However, there is not one Korean film that made it to the competing catgory.

Last year director Lee Chang-dong's "Poetry" and Im Sang-soo's "The Housemaid - 2010" were invited last year and the "Poetry" had the honor of the Best Screenplay Award.
