Korea Friendship Association Established in Hong Kong

The popularity of Korean culture in Hong Kong has resulted in the formation of various friendship associations in academia, cultural circles, mass media and the tourism sector.

The Korea-Hong Kong Friendship Association that comprises pro-Korean members held a ceremony April 18 at the Dynasty Club in Hong Kong to begin its activities dedicated to learning about Korean traditions and popular culture.

Led by Amy Chan, an honorary professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the association currently comprises some 100 members from academia, broadcasting, and the art and tourism sectors.

The association is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. It will play a role of not only publicizing Korean culture in Hong Kong but also Korea's tangible and intangible cultural assets. It will also promote exchanges between the network of Hong Kong fans of Korean culture and the local ethnic Korean community.

The association also plans to establish a library dedicated to Korean culture, and organize festivals and lectures on Korean culture, previews of Korean movies, meetings with Korean artists and celebrities, and Korean song classes.
