Korea ranked a glum 58th, plummeting 11 notches from last year.
The U.S. came 13th, Germany 16th, the U.K. 23rd, France 32nd, and Japan a cheerless 53rd.
Burundi ranked at the bottom, and North Korea was excluded from the survey.
Happiness in each country was measured based on GDP, life expectancy, corruption perception, and social welfare programs. The fairer the happier, the survey suggests.
