Korea's Yearly Rice Production to Drop to Lowest Level in 32 Years

South Korea's rice production is estimated to drop for the THIRD straight year in 2012, and post its LOWEST annual production in more than 30 years.
According to Statistics Korea on Monday, the country's total rice output is estimated to reach a little over four million tons this year, down 200-thousand tons from a year earlier.
Bad weather and a decline in the total farming area are being blamed for the drop.
Korea was hit by two typhoons near the end of this summer and by another one in early September, which is the most critical period for rice farming.
Seoul's agriculture ministry, however, says there won't be a shortage of the staple grain, as the country's rice consumption is also on the decline.
