Korean-American Rappers Hit No. 1 on U.S. Billboard Chart

Far East Movement, a multi-ethnic hip-hop group including two Korean-American members, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. on Thursday with their song "Like A G6".

The quartet consists of Korean Americans Prohgress and J-Splif, Japanese American Kev Nish, and Filipino American DJ Virman. They are the first artists of Asian descent to crack the top 10 on the Billboard chart, not to mention first place.

The group was formed in Los Angeles' Koreatown in 2003 by Prohgress, J-Splif and Kev Nish, with DJ Virman joining later. Their first taste of fame came in 2006 when their single "Round Round" was featured in the Hollywood blockbuster "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift".

Since "Like A G6" appeared at 10th place on the Billboard chart early this month, the reception from both Korean and U.S. music fans has been explosive. The music video for the song includes images of the traditional Korean liquor soju and signboards written in Hangeul, the Korean alphabet.

On Thursday the group celebrated their accomplishment with a posting on Twitter: "LIKE A G6 HIT #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts!! God bless n thanks to yall for makin this real".
