Korean Animation Takes 2nd Prize at MIP JUNIOR, Cannes

"Canimal", a 3D animation for pre-schoolers, created by Korea VOOZ Co. and co-produced with Spain's BRB International S.A., captured second place among 30 programs selected in MIP JUNIOR 2009, a world-renowned animation event based in Cannes, France.

A total of 40,325 animation series from 618 companies in 59 nations competed in this year's competition. MIP JUNIOR 2009 is the biggest children's programming and screening event in the world. It regularly screens over 1,000 programs attracting buyers from over 40 nations with various seminars and exhibitions.

"Canimal" – an amalgam of "can" and "animal" – is a five-minute, 52-episode animation series. Vooz Company employees hit upon the idea three years ago while eating 'canned tuna' for lunch one day. The show revolves around cute encounters between animals and tin cans.

Targetted for children age 3 to 6, the show is expected to air in the latter half of 2010 in Korea and abroad. "We've already concluded licensing agreements with companies from the U.S., Mexico and Brazil since last year. We're receiving calls from Europe and Asia too", Kim Yoo-gyeong, the head of Vooz said. Vooz is also behind the popular "Pucca" animation.
