Korean animation The Road wins the grand prix at DCC Japan

The Japanese office of Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA, CEO: Suh, Byung-Moon) announced last October 10 that Kim, Seon-Yeong's The Road received a Golden Wing award, the grand prix, at DCC, and that three other Korean works also won prizes therein.

DCC, hosted by DCAj of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, is a renowned digital-contents competition in Japan. Until last year, DCC was known as the Digital Contents Grand Prix.

The Road is a humorous yet meaningful work that portrays little living beings hurt by a drunken man's trifling act which, in the end, causes his house to burn down. "The Road" won the second prize at Korea Local Digicon 6+3, hosted by TBS in Japan last month, and receives support from KOCCA's Short Animation Production Support Program.

Other honored works include "Starry Night" by Kim, Mi-Jin, which received the KOCCA CEO Award (200,000 yen and a trophy), an award given to the Korean animation that is deemed to be the best; Soeyoun by Kim, Jin-Man, which received the Quebec Award (100,000 yen and a trophy), an award sponsored by Canada's Quebec province; and A Life by Yu, Jin-Ho, which received the Special Prize, the first such award given in DCC history.

"Although one or two Korean animations receive awards in DCC every year, it is the first time that as many as four Korean animations were awarded in the event, and DCC even created the Special Prize category to honor Korean animations", said Kim, Sang-Hyun, Director of KOCCA's Japanese office. "This is another evidence of the excellence of Korean animation".

The awarding ceremony will be held at Asiagraph (10/11-14, UDX Akihabara), the Asian version of Siggraph. Also to be held on the 14th, the final day of Asiagraph, is a seminar to be participated in by Korean CG animation specialists. Kim, Su-Hoon, CEO of Samji Animatino, and Choi, Jae-Won, CEO of Digital Magic Entertainment, will deliver keynote speeches in the seminar.
