Korean-Chinese Director Wins Grand Prix at Cinema Novo Film Festival

Korean-Chinese director Zhang Lu's "Grain in Ear" won the grand prix in the competition category at the Cinema Novo Film Festival in Belgium that ended on March 17, according to Dongsoong Art Center, the distributor of the film, on Tuesday.
Realistically describing the difficulties and pain Korean-Chinese women face as a minority, "Grain in Ear" received the New Currents Award at the 2005 Pusan International Film Festival, the ACID Award in the critics week section at the Cannes Film Festival, and the grand prizes at the 2005 Pesaro Film Festival in Italy and Vesoul Asian Film Festival in France.
Ryoo Seung-wan's "Crying Fist" competed with the film but failed to capture an award.
The Cinema Novo Film Festival is a festival for third world films to compete away from Hollywood blockbusters. Last year, "Samaria" by Kim Ki-duk and "Woman is the Future of Man" by Hong Sang-soo competed in the competition category at the festival.
