Korean-Chinese Film Director Wins Grand Prize at Pesaro Film Festival in Italy

Korean-Chinese film director Chang Ryul, or "Zhang Lu" in Chinese, won the grand prize at the 41st Pesaro Film Festival in Italy for his film "Mangjong" (meaning "barley harvest season", or "Mangzhong" in Chinese).
The jury said, "The film is about a woman's resolute struggle to defend human dignity and hope. Director Chang succeeded in depicting this storyline very imaginatively".
Mangjong, a joint production between South Korean and Chinese production teams, follows the stories of "Sun-hee", who sells Kimchi in a Chinese village, a policeman named "Wang", a massage girl at a dirty barber shop, and the child "Chang-ho", who hates learning the Korean language.
Mangjong is the second epic film produced by the third-generation Korean-Chinese Chang, who was born and raised in Yanbian, China.
The film won the ACID award during the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival held in May.
