Korean CT advances to the U.S. market

The U.S.A. office (Director: Kim, Yang-Jin) of Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA, CEO: Suh, Byung-Moon) held "Dicon Hollywood" in Hollywood, CA, last October 16 and 17, on the theme "Korea, the World's Most Advanced Digital-Contents Market".

The event consisted of a conference targeting individuals who were interested in the cultural industry, and an export presentation that featured the most promising Korean content providers' know-how and ideas regarding how to attract investments and select distributors. The two-day event was participated in by about 200 officials from the Korean and U.S. entertainment industries, as well as by local government officials, including the consul general at L.A., U.S.A.

The conference last October 16, with the theme "Korea's Creativity", showcased various presentations and Q&A sessions on Korea's film, animation, and content production infrastructure, and on its new-media-content distribution channels. Director Shim, Hyung-Rae, who recently released his film D-War (Dragon Wars) in U.S. theaters, the first Korean film to have accomplished this feat, was the conference's keynote speaker. In his keynote speech on CGI films that challenge the global era, Shim highlighted the superiority of Korean digital contents, and of their huge potential to hit it big in the international market.

The other conference speakers were Ahn, Hong-Ju, Director of KT's Content Management Headquarters, Korea's representative communication service provider, and an active investor in cultural contents; and Cheon, Tae-Gi, Director of the U.S. office of SK Telecom, a company that offers internationally competitive mobile communication services and technologies. They spoke about the current conditions of Korea's digital contents, IPTV, and mobile-services industry.

"Korea's excellent digital-content providers, based on the country's advanced IT technology and mobile communication services, were able to meet U.S. distributors and investors in Dicon Hollywood, discussing joint ventures and partnerships and other practical business opportunities", said Kim, Yang-Jin, Director of KOCCA's U.S.A. office.
