The administration will hold cultural events and trade and investment fairs in seven Arab countries from Oct. 14 to 27 in an effort to foster friendship and mutual understanding, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Monday.

The events, named the Korea-Arab Friendship Caravan, will take place in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Oman and Lebanon.

Korean taekwondo players, dancers and musicians will stage performances during the period to help promote understanding of Korean culture. The government will also introduce Korean films and traditional food.

"We've planned the events to promote Korea-Arab ties and seek business opportunities", the ministry said in a press release.

The opening ceremony will be held in Egypt on Oct. 14, where Sakong Il, president of the Korea-Arab Society (KAS) and a key economic advisor to President Lee Myung-bak, will attend.

In August last year, Korea held such events to mark the establishment of the KAS, a non-profit organization.

The Arab Culture Festival was also held in various venues in Seoul last year.
