Korean Drama OSTs Attract Japan's Eyes and Ears

Japanese locals find excitement in meeting the singers of their favorite Korean dramas.
"Drama Original Sounds Korea 2007", held at Yu-wu Photo Hall, in Tokyo by the Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA, CEO: Suh, Byung-Moon), ended successfully; attracting over 18,000 Japanese fans of Korean drama OSTs.
The event aimed at supporting the advancement of Korean singers who sang the theme songs and tunes inserted into the Korean dramas that are popular in Japan and promoting the sales of related video content. It showcased Oh, Hyun-Ran, whose popularity in Japan is increasing after singing the OST for Something Happened in Bali and Smile Again, and four other Korean singers who sang OSTs for favorite Korean dramas.
The singers performed live onstage with the drama scenes as their backdrop, offering Japanese fans the chance to meet with the actual soundtrack singers and enjoy the concert. Excitement filled the concert hall as the Japanese audience greatly welcomed their new favorites with earth-shattering applauses.
"I've always loved watching Korean dramas and, naturally, came to love the music featured in each of them", said a middle-aged Japanese woman who traveled from a local town just to see the concert. "I had to travel far to see my favorite Korean singers, but it was worth it".
"As music tends to double the sentiment brought by the drama scenes, many people have come to love and appreciate OSTs", said Kim, Jin-Gyu, director of the Industrial Promotion Headquarters at KOCCA. "With this event, we have found out that singers who sang OSTs of Korean dramas have a huge potential to capture the Japanese market".
Drama Original Sounds Korea 2007 was sponsored by the Japanese Film Commission Promotion Council under the Japanese Cultural Agency, the Japan Phonograph Record Association, the Japan Video Software Association, and the Foundation for the Promotion of the Music Industry and Culture in Japan, as well as the Korea Entertainment Producer Association.
