Korean Film Co. Opens in China

Korean film company Nabi Pictures is set to launch a branch in China, Beijing Nabi Pictures. It plans to produce a Chinese-language film with working title, Gyeolhon Jinhwaron or Marriage Evolution Theory. The film will tell the story of a Korean man and a Chinese woman who fall in love at first sight, but whose marriage is fraught with various cultural clashes and misunderstandings.

Nabi Pictures claims this is the first time that a Korean film company has established a company in China to produce a Chinese film. A talented new Chinese director has been selected to direct the project. Beijing Nabi Pictures will also be headed by a Chinese national, former Beijing Film Studio deputy managing director, ZHANG Xia, who has produced film such as Beijing Bicycle and The Emperor and the Assassin

China's strict screen quota system which requires local films to be shown 66.6% of the year, will not affect the new project, as it would be considered as a domestic production.
Nabi Pictures previously produced the 2003 comedy Please Teach Me English and is currently shooting Restless, a Korean-language sword-play fantasy, at a studio in China.
