Korean Film Fest Hit Lyons France

SEOUL (Yonhap) - South Korean film students in France will stage the second Korean film festival in the southeastern French tourist city of Lyons from this weekend, the students said Monday.

The Lyons Korean Film Festival will be held June 18-24 and hosted by the Lyons Korean Film Society, a group of Korean cinema students in France. It is being sponsored by the Korea Cultural Center in Paris and the state-run Korea National Tourism Organization.

During the seven-day run, the festival will screen 11 feature films and five short movies for free. They will include director Kim Dong-won's "Repatriation", an acclaimed documentary about the lives of North Korean spies who were captured in the South; Im Kwon-taek's international prize-winning "Seopyeonje"; "Christmas in August", a romantic drama by Heo Jin-ho; and Song Il-gon's mystery movie "Spider Forest".

It will also stage a seminar in which film experts like Yi Hyo-in, president of the Korean Film Archive, and Charles Tesson, former editor-in-chief of France's authoritative movie magazine Cahiers Du Cinema, will discuss the status of Korean films in the world industry. Two local movie directors, Kim and Jeon Su-il, will take part in the film festival, according to the organizers.

"A South Korean film festival is rare in Europe", Jeong Jae-hoon, the Korean coordinator of the festival, said. "It will serve to introduce homegrown films to French audiences through a variety of works ranging from classics to recent feature films and shorts by rookie directors".
