Korean filmmakers win at LA 3D film fest

Korean directors Shin Terra and Joy Park picked up top awards at the 8th Los Angeles 3D Movie Festival, organizers announced Sunday.

Shin Terra won the First Place Jury Award for "27 Years Later" while the second prize went to "UYUYU!" by Colombian filmmaker Santiago Caicedo. The third prize was awarded to "My Dream" by Korea's Joy Park.

The annual event showcases independent stereoscopic 3D films from around the world and jury comprises of Hollywood experts including Chuck Comisky, the 3D VFX supervisor of "Avatar". The 8th edition of the event was held May 14 and 15 in downtown Los Angeles.

Shin Terra's movie tells the story of a scientist, Dr. Sim, who has developed a time machine that can be used only once, and plans to turn the clock back a year, with lottery information. But things go awry and the time setting is changed to 27 years. The short film premiered in Korea earlier this year when it opened the Seoul International Extreme-Short Image and Film Festival.

Park's film features performances by the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe (CDPPAT) and "maximizes the 3D effect.... creates a special art which delights audiences as the performers present what they have dreamed of", according to the jury.
