Korean Films Enjoy 70% Market Share for 3 Months

Korean films have enjoyed more than 70 percent of the market share for three consecutive months.

According to an analysis of the film industry during the month of October as disclosed by CJ CGV on Nov. 2, eight of 12 recently released Korean films have ranked in the top 10 in terms of box-office ticket sales, enjoying a 73.9-percent market share. Following a similarly high market share in August (70.4 percent) and September (75.6 percent), Korean films have topped box-office charts for three straight months, outdistancing foreign movies.

Some recent hit Korean films include the dramas "Marrying the Mafia II" and "Never to Lose" as well as melodramatic movies such as "My Lovely Week", "You are my Sunshine" and Sad Movie. The only foreign films ranked in the top 10 were "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "The Myth".

Thanks to such box-office hits, the total number of moviegoers in October recorded 10,638,631, up 34.7 percent year-on-year.
