Korean films sell well at MIFED

Korean international sales companies saw strong business at the recent MIFED film market in Milan, Italy. A large number of Korean films were sold to other territories, with strong interest being shown in titles Old Boy, Untold Scandal, Legend of the Evil Lake and others.

PARK Chan-wook's critically acclaimed Old Boy, which received its premiere at the festival, received strong praise from buyers and reviewers, and managed to secure a record-breaking sale to Japan. The film was sold to Amuse Pictures and Toshiba in Japan as well as Metro Tartan for the UK. Sales company Cineclick Asia has also reported strong interest in the title from Hollywood majors looking to purchase remake rights.

Meanwhile, Tube Entertainment has reached an agreement to sell ...ing, a romantic drama starring IM Su-jeong and KIM Rae-won, to Shochiku in Japan. The film is scheduled to be released in Korea on November 28.

Other sales included RYU Seung-wan's Arahan to Thailand (pre-sales); Legend of the Evil Lake to Benelux, Russia, Indonesia, and Thailand; Memories of Murder to Japan, UK, Scandinavia, Benelux, and Spain; Natural City to Italy; Resurrection of the Little Match Girl to Spain; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring to Italy; and Tube to Italy, France, and Spain.

KOFIC was in attendance at the market, giving assistance to local film companies and helping to promote Korean cinema.
