Korean Films Take over 50% Market Share

The domestic market share of Korean films surpassed 50 percent last year for the first time in four years.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Thursday, Korean movies had a 51.9 percent market share in 2011, up 5.4 percentage points from a year earlier.

Until 2010, Korean films' share of the market had been around 40 percent since a quota for domestic films was lifted.

The main reason seems to be that the number of Korean films that drew over 4 million viewers increased from two in 2010 to five last year.
