ung Eun-kyeong, the chief of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, has been included in TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People this year. The list was published on Tuesday.

President Moon Jae-in hailed her as an "inspiration" to the world in his contribution to the magazine.

"South Korea's response to the COVID-19 pandemic has become a global example", Moon wrote. Jung "has led the nation's antivirus efforts to success by candidly interacting with the public, based on the principles of openness, transparency and democracy".

"I believe Commissioner Jung's decency and dedication are indeed a story worth telling -- one that will serve as an inspiration for the many".

Jung's response to her inclusion was modest. "I will try my best to overcome the COVID-19 crisis", she said.

Cheong Wa Dae earlier claimed Jung was "the only Korean to be selected" for the TIME 100, evidently forgetting that Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho also made the list. Cheong Wa Dae said it was misinformed by the magazine and did not double-check.
