The popularity of the hit Korean TV drama "Dae Jang Geum" is spreading to more countries in Asia.
After creating a sensation in Chinese-speaking countries, the drama is also touching the hearts of many Japanese fans.
"Dae Jang Geum" tells the story of a 16th-century woman named Janggum, who overcomes the prejudices of a male-dominated feudal society to rise to the position of royal chef and physician.

RECORDED: "Let me introduce you to Korean actress Yang Mi-kyung who played the court lady Han".

At this gathering organized by Japan's broadcasting station, NHK, Japanese fans of Korean hit drama "Dae Jang Geum" had a chance to meet one of the leading actors, Yang Mi-kyung, in person.

RECORDED: "I wish everyone who watches our drama can keep their hopes high as the main character Daejanggum does in the story".

Fans also loved the little girl who played Dae Jang Geum's childhood role.
There was even a contest to pick five Japanese girls as little Daejanggums.

RECORDED: "Thank you very much for your support. I hope people continue to love our show".

The NHK event also served as a venue to introduce the magnificent style of Korea's traditional royal dishes and culture.
A cooking demonstration in particular attracted many visitors who used to think of only kimchi and bulgogi when it comes to Korean food.

Organizers and participants say the success of one Korean TV drama can result in more than a strong viewership, as elements of the show can speak directly to foreign audiences, to help them understand and know more about Korean culture.
