Korean movie export: increase over 279 times compared with past 1995.

Thanks to a boom of Hanryu (Korean Wave), Korean movie's export to Japan and France, a kernel of Hanryu gale, has shown an explosive growth pace by increasing 191% and 194% respectively than previous year.


The Korean Film Council said that Korean movie's oversea export had posted about $58.28 million(60 billion won) last year.


This figure shows that Korean movie's oversea export has increased twofold compared with $30.97 million in 2003. Among them, 69.3% ($40.40 million ) was exported to Japan.


An official of KFC said last year's Korean movie export is an amount that has skyrocketed over 279 times compared with $208,679 (approximately 210 million won) in past 1995.


Average export price per a movie also has risen over 67% compared with $188,896 in 2003. Korean movies, which were exported to overseas last year, amount to 194 films in total.


Movie 'Sweet Life' starring Lee Byung-hun to be released in April (photo), has recorded the most highest price among Korean movies exported last year with $3.2 million.


Korean movie's export destinations include 62 nations and following Japan, the U.S.($2.36 million) and France ($2.08 million) were the second and the third export destination countries.
