Korean Movie to be Remade in the United States

A much-lauded Korean movie is to be remade in the U.S. with a big star headlining in it.

According to the Boston Globe, Park Chan-wook's "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" (sometimes called "Lady Vengeance) is to be remade and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron will star as the leading role, originally played by Lee Young-ae.

Theron will also produce the movie, which is the third and final installment in Park Chan-wook's vengeance series after Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" (2002) and "Oldboy" (2003).

"Sympathy for Lady Vengeance", won the Young Lion and Best Innovation awards at the 62nd Venice Film Festival.

CJ Entertainment, the distributor of the film, says discussion is underway for production but there is no word yet on when production is set to begin.

"Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" is about a young lady, who at the age of 19 is wrongly imprisoned for the kidnapping and murder of a young child on behalf of her accomplice Mr. Baek, only to find out that she has been betrayed. While in prison, she carefully prepares her revenge.

Upon her release from prison 13 years later, she finally sets out to seek revenge on Baek, with the help of her former prison mates.

Charlize Theron is a South African actress and former fashion model with American citizenship. She is well-known for her portrayal of the serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the film Monster, for which she won an Academy Award.
