Korean Novel Debuts on NYT Best Seller List

The Korean novel "Please Look After Mom" by Shin Kyung-sook placed on the New York Times best seller list on Sunday in the first week of its release.
The book ranked 21st in the hardcover fiction category based on sales from April 3-9, becoming the first English translation of a Korean publication to make it on the list.
Considered the most credible of its kind in the U.S., the weekly list is compiled from data from over 50,000 booksellers including traditional bookstores, newsstands, large retailers and online e-book stores.
The Korean novel may climb more rungs on the NYT list as it achieved the current ranking with only five days of sales since its debut on April 5.
"All publishers and writers dream that their works will be included on the NYT bestseller list", said Joseph Lee, president of KL Management, Shin's agency outside of Korea. "Making it on the list boosts the chances that the work will be licensed in other countries and be adapted into a Broadway musical or Hollywood film".
