Korean Original Animation Tibo Wins the Heart of Walt Disney

Korean original animation Tibo is to be broadcast in 30 South American countries via The Disney Channel, a well-known US broadcasting company under entertainment mogul Walt Disney.

OCON (CEO: Kim, Il-Ho), creator of Tibo, participated in LICENSING 2007 (LIMA SHOW), the world's largest licensing show, which was held in New York last June, together with the Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA, CEO: Suh, Byung-Moon), as part of the Joint Korean Pavilion. It was then that OCON sealed a contract with US broadcasting firm Walt Disney on the broadcasting rights in 30 South American countries.

It is a rare success that Korean original animation is directly sold to a US major broadcasting company. Industrial insiders have said that this export is evidence that the quality of Korean animation is widely recognized worldwide for its commercial value.

Besides the said contract, Tibo has already forged a few rights deals with other major international broadcasting companies, including Canal J in France, Rai in Italy, and Nickelodeon in Spain. With this recent undertaking, Tibo is to be broadcast in over 60 countries worldwide and is expected to win the heart of children all over the globe.

OCON is now preparing for the Tibo character licensing businesses with the countries it has signed a contract with. The company is already in talks with major licensees in Europe.
