Korean Producer Lee Gains Fame in the U.S.

"Roy really liked comic books since he was a little kid. There was a time when he even collected Charlie Brown comic books".

When Lee In-hee, mother of Roy Lee, heard the news that the movie "The Departed", whose production Roy participated in, won four Oscars at the 79th Annual Academy Awards recently held in Los Angeles, she immediately called her son and asked, "Are you content?" Roy happily replied, "Yes, Mother".

The mother later confessed that she fell asleep, while watching the award ceremony on TV. She was stirred awake at midnight, when her phone went off the hook, informing her of "The Departed" winning the movie of the year award.

Although Roy was born in New York, he lived in Rockville, Montgomery County in Maryland. He graduated from Walter Johnson high school and got into George Washington University to study political science. He graduated from American University Law School and worked as a lawyer at a firm in D.C. for four years.

"One day in 2001, Roy suddenly made a shocking statement. He never left home before, but he suddenly said that he's going to LA. He said he was bored of his job. Nothing could stop him. He drove off with his American friend and called three days later from LA, saying that he arrived safely", Lee recollected.

Roy always wanted to work at film industry, so he immediately started at the Universal Studio. In the first year of his movie career, Roy established the Vertigo Entertainment with his friend Doug Davidson. After showing his presence with the remaking of "The Ring", he continued his work with "The Grudge" and "The Lake House". He also bought the copyrights to "My Sassy Girl" and "My Wife is a Gangster" and conciliated the film to DreamWorks and Miramax.

Lee was the first person to suggest the remaking of Hong Kong film "Infernal Affairs". This was a huge success as it won four Oscars as "The Departed".

Despite the success her son was basking in, the Korean mother are continuously worried about her son's future.

"Roy is doing what he wants to do. So I no longer tell him to come back to Washington. But I continuously pray for him to befriend the Christian community in Hollywood so that the Christianity spreads in this world".
