Korean Production "Good Morning" by Bu Kang-Il

London/Vancouver — "Good Morning", a Korean/US co-production directed by Bu Kang Il, has been selected for Filminute, the international one-minute film festival, which runs from Sept. 1-30, 2008. Good Morning is one of the 25 films from 16 countries shortlisted after a review of more than 1,500 films.

Audiences around the world can view Good Morning and the entire selection of 25 one-minute films at www.filminute.com In 2007, Filminute generated online audiences from 90 countries and organizers expect this year's audience to grow to an even larger number over the next month.

In Filminute, Good Morning will vie for jury and public prizes. This year's prestigious jury will determine the Best Filminute prize, while visitors to the filminute.com site can vote for the People's Choice award. The Filminute Awards will be announced on October 12.

After graduating from the Communication Studies program at Yonsei University (Korea) in 2007, Kang Il Bu enrolled in the film program at UCLA Extension in the U.S. to pursue his passion for filmmaking. Currently, he is interning at KOFIC USA and working on feature and short film projects to gain production experience. He is also writing a short film screenplay, which he plans to shoot in 2009. His film, Good Morning is haunting reverie of love.

Filminute, a festival truly built for modern times, is multi-national and multi-platform. The online component is complemented by mobile, digital, broadcast, and cinematic presentations throughout the festival month of September and leading up to the announcement of the winners on October 12.

The world is invited to watch at http://www.filminute.com. Comments from site visitors are collected and delivered to the directors soon after the conclusion of the festival. Audiences also rate the films on a 5-star scale and every visitor to the Filminute site is entitled to vote for one film for the People's Choice award.

All votes must be registered on the site by midnight GMT, September 30, 2008.

The Filminute Jury

Each year, the Filminute jury is comprised of heavyweights from the film, media, art and advertising worlds. Academy Award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker, Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby); David Kennedy, co-founder of the Wieden + Kennedy advertising agency; Dr. Andrea Dittgen, editor of the German daily, Die Rheinpfalz, and board member of FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics); award-winning novelist and journalist, Francisco Goldman (The Long Night of the White Chickens, The Art of Political Murder: Who Killed the Bishop?); Taketo Oguchi, editor-in-chief and publisher of Japan's SHIFT magazine; and Filminute principals John Ketchum and Sabaa Quao will adjudicate this year's selection of one-minute films.

International Events

In the UK, throughout September and until the awards are presented in mid-October, the Selfridges department store in London will host Filminute in the Wonder Wall, a dedicated showcase for creative talent. As well, Selfridges' Ultralounge, the permanent event and exhibition space on the lower ground floor, will offer a cinematic presentation of Filminute 2008, supported by an interactive lounge space. Downloads of one-minute films from the shortlisted collection will be available for Bluetooth enabled mobile phones.

In Canada, the Royal Ontario Museum's Institute for Contemporary Culture will program a live Filminute event supported by a discussion around the impact and relevance of one-minute films. The ROM event will be held after the Toronto International Film Festival and details will be announced in the weeks to come.

In Romania, the Orange Concept Store in downtown Bucharest will host a major Filminute event in September, as well as an awards event on October 12th.

Filminute on TV

Filminute is also producing a television broadcast property that will be presented internationally via broadband and conventional broadcast partners. ShortsTV in France is the first to announce a promotion of past Filminute films throughout the festival and leading up to a half-hour broadcast show on October 12, the date of the Filminute 2008 winners announcements.

Truly International

Filminute is truly an international event. Founded by John Ketchum and Sabaa Quao, both Canadians living abroad, the event has been decentralized since its inception. Filminute's head office is in London, UK, where Quao is based, while planning and operations, led by Ketchum, are centred in Bucharest, Romania. In Canada, television production and publicity activities are managed out of Vancouver, and web development and design are spearheaded in Toronto.

Friends of the Earth

As it did last year, Friends of the Earth (FOE), the UK-based environmental action network, is promoting a One-Minute Film Competition, in association with Filminute, for films with environmental themes. One of the entries in last year's competition — a quirky animation from Australia titled Polar Bears — went on to generate over one million views across FOE' YouTube site and on Filminute.com. This year's FOE jury includes Scottish film producer Andrew Macdonald (Trainspotting, The Last King of Scotland) and David Sproxton CBE, co-founder of Aardman Animation (creators of the Wallace and Gromit films and producers of Chicken Run).
