Synopsis
Based on the late Choi Hyun's 'Gunja 'Dance, 'Scent of Ink' was choreographed by Yeon Seong-joo, the former artistic director of the National Dance Company, and directed and designed by Jung Ku-ho. It is the representative repertoire of the National Dance Company. It is composed of a total of six chapters: Seomu, Maehwa, Nancho, Gukhwa, Ojuk and Jongmu, seen through the eyes of a gentlemen in the backdrop of spring, summer, autumn, and winter symbolized by the Four Gentlemen. After the premiere, the reaction of domestic and foreign audiences and critics to the work was overwhelming. With sophisticated and elegant costumes and stage directing, the work surpassed the prejudices of traditional dance, and was evaluated to have presented the aesthetics of minimalism with a high degree of perfection in harmony with the choreography that captures the depth of minute movements and the directing that stands out with a simple style.
