  • [HanCinema's Drama Review] "Marry Him If You Dare" Episode 6

Almost immediately after future Mi-Rae's apparent clairvoyance is discovered, she makes another shocking prediction that forces the entire cast into crisis mode. This wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I wanted the characters in this drama to exhibit more agency, but I'm not going to argue with what works. There's excitement and action galore here, and best of all, none of this overshadows the characterization. For starters, the fact that future Mi-Rae has been keeping this information to herself this whole time, and only appears to be bringing it up now to further her own plans, really seems to obviously put into question her motives,...More
  • Coach to open new chapter in Koreas soccer history

    2013/04/13, Source
While preparing for the 1990 World Cup Italy, I visited Hyochang Stadium in Seoul as a trainer of the national soccer team to meet Hong Myung-bo, then a Korea University student, on a fall day in 1989. The national team had a weak defense line as key players suffered injuries. While searching for a promising player, I learned of Hong, and went there to see him in person. Evaluation by soccer experts was accurate. With outstanding sense in controlling the ball, Hong played as both midfielder and defender and displayed clever play. Because it was difficult to accurately evaluate through a single match, I immediately visited Korea Broadcasting System TV station and watched all soccer matches of Korea University team that Hong had played until then. Before long, I recruited him. This was the starting point of my relationship with Hong, the coach for Koreas Olympic soccer team who helped Korea earn the first bronze medal in its history at the 2012 Olympic Games in London,...More
  • Decaying town eyes artful comeback

    2012/07/22, Source
The inaugural Sunset Janghang Festival is hosting various art and culture events around the South Chungcheong Province port town through Sunday. In this photo, the organizers have turned a granary from the Japanese colonial rule (1910-1945) to an exhibition space for contemporary artworks. A main international port in the early 20th century but now largely neglected, Janghang is today riddled with abandoned century-old structures and its population has dropped to about 13,000 from its high 100,000./Korea Times photo by Kwaak Je-yup Sunset Janghang Festival kicks off town's renaissance effort JANGHANG - The vacation traffic jams clogged up the main freeways out of Seoul last Saturday. But as this reporter's car approached the smallish seaside town, only a few other cars were in sight, the promotional flags attached to lampposts outnumbering the vehicles on the road,...More

Two mega dramas of cinematic proportions are taking over weekday nights on SBS.
