Kwon Ah-ram Wins Young Artist Award in U.S.

Artist Kwon Ah-ram has recently won the Young Artist Award in New York, USA. A video art-major, Kwon is adept at combining computer graphics with performance photos and video and using images of her own body in a unique way.

In April last year, Kwon appeared in Insa-dong, downtown Seoul, wearing yellow clothes and a black mask and imitating an act of eating, unfazed by passers-by. It was her performance entitled "Every Act is a Contradiction", which kept viewers riveted for two hours.

A month later, she flew to New York to receive the Young Artist award from Mantra TV, a U.S. TV channel for young artists. Kwon won the award by beating thousands of competitors at the 1st Pop-up Project. On February 23, Mantra TV introduced Kwon's works for about half an hour in a program that aired in New York.

Kwon's role-model is the late video artist Paik Nam-june. She has just made her first step toward the global arena but she continues to work hard to create her unique works with the goal of showcasing them at prestigious international video and film events such as the ResFest Digital Film Festival.
