Lee Young-ae Donates W50 Million for Earthquake Victims

Actress Lee Young-ae on Wednesday sent the Chosun Ilbo W50 million for the victims of a massive earthquake and tsunami that hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi last Friday (US$1=W1,122).

"As a mother raising kids of my own, I was shocked to hear about children in the devastated area losing family members and going hungry", she said. "Though the amount is small, I decided to make a donation to help".

She mentioned that Indonesia helped South Korea during the Korean War by sending relief goods, and more recently that Indonesians are huge fans of Korean dramas and pop music, including her own hit series "Jewel in the Palace".

"I hope that many people will help in this effort", she added.

Korean businesses are also pitching in. SK decided to send aid of US$300,000 and is considering having affiliates provide additional assistance. LG will donate 3 billion Indonesian rupiah (W220 million) for relief efforts.
