[Lily's Take] Should JTBC Have Their Own Drama Awards?

I would be wonderful if JTBC had their own award ceremony at the end of the year.

The public/ground-wave stations, KBS, MBC, and SBS, air their awards ceremonies at the end of each year. They organize them into three different categories: music, drama, and entertainment. This is to express the gratitude for good shows and brilliant stars who made us laugh and cry throughout each year. However, JTBC doesn't have these award ceremonies. It disappointing since JTBC had an outstanding year full of popular dramas and variety shows.

If JTBC held a drama award ceremony, there would have been a tough competition between "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon" and "Woman of Dignity". These two dramas had a huge influence on K-drama culture and raised a bar for what to expect from cable ratings. With "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon" setting a viewer rating record of 9.7% and "Woman of Dignity" of 12.1%, both enjoyed great success.

Although it woudl be nice for cable stations to hold ceremonies like KBS, MBC, and SBS, it is difficult for a cable station like JTBC to hold such huge awards ceremonies. Even tvN, which is another successful cable station, had to really put forth effort to create an award ceremony in 2016, to celebrate their 10th anniversary. For tvN, the awards selection included all the shows aired in last 10 years and after such big celebration, it is uncertain when they will be able to hold another awards ceremony.

Looking at tvN's example, we are hoping that JTBC will be able to hold their own in near future, featuring all the wonderful shows ever aired in JTBC including "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon", "Woman of Dignity", "Age of Youth", "Man to Man", "Secret Love Affair", "Untouchable", and many more.
