[Local and Foreign Films With English Subtitles]

▣ Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival
Through July 24
Puchon, Kyonggi Province
The Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival returns with another batch of science fiction, fantasy and horror films. In its eighth year, the event, also known as PiFan, has expanded from its loyal cult fan base and has grown into the nation's second largest film festival after Pusan. But with movies like "Gagamboy", a Philippine version of "Spider-Man" and the grisly "Toolbox Murders", PiFan is still the place to go for the weird and bizarre. Taking place in Puchon, which is just a subway ride from downtown Seoul, the event opened yesterday with Stuart Gordon's "King of the Ants", and will close on July 24 with the premiere of the local horror "Bunshinsaba". Other films to look for are the Japanimation "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence" and the British mystery film "The Singing Detective". Tickets: 4,000-10,000 won. Details: (032) 322-9225 or www.pifan.com.
