Seoul Arts Cinema will show a total of 52 films dealing with the issue of political revolution in the modern history from July 27 to Aug. 15.

Marking the 60th anniversary of the end of the Japanese colonial rule over Korea and the 25th anniversary of the Kwangju pro-democracy movement against the military regime in 1980, the event aims to look back on the history of the fierce revolutions in the 20th century.

There are 12 movies in the Cinema & May 68 section made during the revolutionary period by such directors as Jean-Pierre Thorn and Pierre Clementi. There are 31 movies in the Japanese Underground Cinema section about political and social problems in the 1960s and 1970s in Japan and there are nine films in the Kwangju & After the Revolution section depicting issues related to the intrepid citizens' movement in Kwangju, South Cholla Province in 1980.

There will be also various other events such as a symposium and presentation of films by movie critics as well as a Q&A session with local directors. Some films are screened with English subtitles. Directed by Ryoo Seung-wan of last year's Taoist superhero feast "Arahan", the movie revolves around two men who people think are losers, including the two themselves, but test their skill through a rookies' championship, only to face each other in the final. Tae-sik (Choi Min-sik), a once famous silver medallist boxer, must win the match to prove he can achieve something as he is on the verge of losing everything, including his wife and son. While 19-year-old prisoner Sanghwan (Ryu Seung-bom) needs the championship belt to get temporary leave from prison to visit his father's tomb and meet his grandmother. Tickets: 3,000 won.
