Hypertheque Nada, Kangbyon CGV
Directed by British filmmaker Daniel Gordon, the 2004 documentary tells a story of two female North Korean gymnasts who dedicate themselves to the Mass Games. Gordon, the first foreigner to shoot a documentary in Pyongyang, sheds light on the lives of ordinary people in North Korea through the two gymnasts, apart from any political stance. In the documentary filmed in the secretive communist nation for about six months, 13-year-old Park Hyon-sun and 11-year-old Kim Song-yon practice their skills to honor their "Dear Leader" Kim Jong-il, but lead ordinary lives like people of other countries. Along with "A State of Mind", the director's first documentary on North Korea will also be shown at theaters for the first time. "The Game of Their Lives" in 2001 is a story about the big breakthrough of the North Korean national football team in the 1966 World Cup. The two documentary films are shown at Hypertheque Nada near Taehangno Subway Station and Kangbyong CGV near Kangbyon Subway Station.end of file

Directed by Han Hyeong-mo, "The Hand of Destiny" (1954) tells of a love story between a bar girl who secretly works for North Korean spies and a poor student who later becomes a detective. Margaret, played by Yoon In-ja, is a North Korean spy working as a bar girl at a saloon when she happens to save college student Sin Yeong-chul (by Lee Hyang), who is being pursued as a thief. After the incident, they become close and love each other. But as Shin becomes a detective, Margaret feels torn between her identity as a spy and love for him. The movie is also famous for showing the first onscreen kiss in a Korean film. The scene seems tame now but was considered shocking at the time. Tickets: 3,000 won.
