Lotte Skyscraper Adopts Cutting-Edge Construction Method

A 120-m spire that will sit on top of the new Lotte World Mall in southern Seoul will be a "diagrid" structure to make it withstand 80m/s winds and earthquakes measuring up to nine on the Richter scale.

Diagrid is a steel design for large buildings that creates triangular structures with diagonal support beams.

Lotte Engineering and Construction said the structure will support the 107th through 123rd floors. "Once completed, it will be the tallest building in the world with a diagrid structure", a spokesman claimed.

The spire will be completed at the end of next year.
