Lottery Ticket Sales Hit All-Time High

Lottery ticket sales reached an all-time high of W3.96 trillion last year, according to the Finance Ministry on Tuesday (US$1=W1,132).

Lottery sales typically spike in a recession as people see few other ways of getting rich.  

Each Korean bought W76,800 worth of Lotto tickets last year, and daily sales stood at an average of W1.09 million.

A total of 484 jackpot winners received W1.96 billion each on average. The biggest prize amounted to W5.93 billion, which went to three lucky winners from the Sept. 1 draw.
