Major companies shift to high gear in the animation business

Major outfits' animation production continues... CJ Internet's Koongya Koongya and SK C&C's Cosmic Quantum Ray

Using their huge capital and marketing power, major Korean companies are shifting their animation business to high gear.

One of the most important characteristics of these companies is that they are advancing into the animation production, marketing, and licensing businesses separately.

CJ Internet, the pioneer in the animation business among these major companies, announced in a business meeting last September 6th that it has begun its full-scale animation business. It said it has premiered the first episode of its TV animation, Koongya Koongya, which is based on NetMarble's popular game character, Koongya, and announced its plan to broadcast the animation on KBS TV starting October this year.

CJ Internet undertook the overall planning of the animation while KBS directed it and Seoul Movie produced it. CJ Internet is planning to take charge of the marketing and promotion of the animation and its characters, and other related licensing activities.

Staring with the launch of Koongya Koongya's teaser website on September 4th, CJ Internet plans to promote the animation widely by launching Koongya Adventure, a large-scale casual RPG online game.

Meanwhile, SK C&C (CEO: Yoon, Kyeong-Seok), which announced the launch of its animation business with its purchase of Independence, a 3D animation production company, last September, also plans to broadcast soon its scientific TV information animation, Cosmic Quantum Ray.

Financed, marketed, and licensed by SK C&C and co-produced by SK C&C and Mike Young Production (UK), Cosmic Quantum Ray is a 26-episode TV animation scheduled to appear in major animation markets including Korea, USA, UK, and Germany.
