Many Young Office Workers Prepare for 2nd Profession

A growing number of young workers intend to prepare for a second profession, according to a straw poll by job search portal Saramin.

Some 88 percent of 554 respondents in their 20s and 30s said they are willing to prepare for a second profession, while 46 percent said they are already taking steps.

Some 45 percent said they are studying for a special license, while 32 percent said they are saving up seed money to start their own business, and 27 percent said they are studying a foreign language.

They were allowed to give multiple answers.

Also, 27 percent of respondents said they are gaining experience in new professional fields, 23 percent that they are acquiring specific technical and professional skills and 19 percent that they are taking the necessary classes.

Asked about when they want to take on a new profession, 34 percent said when they are in their 30s, followed by in their 40s (31 percent), in their 50s (19 percent) and in their 20s (11 percent).

A mere five percent said they will start a new job only after they retire from the current job.

The most popular choices were landing a new job after changing professions (53 percent), followed by self-employment (38 percent) and YouTube creator or writer (15 percent).
