MBC union suspends strike

2010/05/13 Source

By Kang Shin-who
Staff reporter

Union members at MBC, the nation's second largest broadcaster, decided Thursday to suspend their strike and return to work from today.

They had been on strike for 39 days, demanding the resignation of company President Kim Jae-chul, calling him a puppet of the Lee Myung-bak administration.

The union held a vote on whether to halt their strike or not with more than half of the voters supporting a suspension of the strike. A total of 639 votes were cast and more than 320 voting in favor.

However, the unionized workers will form a new leadership group and map out how to fight what they call pro-government management.

The normalization of programs is expected to take some time.
