The Korean drama "Winter Sonata", which helped spur the popularity of Korean pop culture in Asia, has now begun to attract fans in Central America.

Viewers in Panama have shown great interest in the mega-hit TV drama series depicting childhood friends in search of true love since Panama's public broadcaster "Ser TV" started airing the dram on March 6.

The broadcaster runs "Winter Sonata" three times a week with reruns on Saturday and Sunday.

"La Prensa", a major daily in Panama has published an article, declaring the drama is sure to be a huge hit even when stacked against Latin dramas and movies.

It said the viewers are attracted to the interesting storyline depicting the turbulent relationship of two high school sweethearts and to the Korean culture that is embedded throughout the episodes.

Originally aired in Korea in 2002, the drama has enjoyed a phenomenal success in Asia, especially in Japan and has been broadcast in Middle Eastern countries and even in Ghana.
